Tribal Education
 

  • Prepared Training module on attitudinal Aspects on Tribal Education for primary teachers to develop a positive  out look towards tribal language and culture. Importance of pre school experience of the children and the exploration of local knowledge is the main focus in this programme. 
  • Prepared tribal Language training module for non tribal teachers to bridge the gap of home and school language  through children’s folklore 
  • Prepared tribal Bi-lingual primers in seven tribal languages of Orissa for class-I children in which the approach is child-centered, activity-based and participatory. The content for the primers is from the cultural context and rich tribal folklore. The cultural perspective of Education (National Policy of Education 1986 and Programme of Action 1992 chapter-2 and 17) has been put into images in these primers. The primers are in Santali, Saora, Bonda, Juang, Koya, Kui and Kuvi language in which the tribal teachers from the respective communities  were involved supported by linguists, anthropologists, Psychologists, Folklorists and pedagogists. 
  • Trained up 350 teachers as master trainers on attitudinal aspects from 55 Blocks of DPEP districts. These master trainers trained 20000 teachers working in tribal areas in 55 Blocks of eight districts of Orissa. This programme was initiated in April 1997 and was completed in September 1999. 

    Conducted State level Workshop on “Use of Folklore in primary education in primary schools exploring the cognitive aspects in folklore and to include these in school activities

  • Conducted Linguistics Survey and mapping in highly populated tribal Blocks. Study commissioned to Academy of Tribal Dialects and Culture, Orissa 
  • Collection and translation of tribal folklore and language materials in eight tribal languages of DPEP districts to prepare supplementary reading materials for primary school children.
